Dr. Albert T. W. Simeon was born in London in 1900. He was a world-renowned endocrinologist who studied at Heidelburg University. He felt that obesity was a disorder due to an actual problem in the body. This disorder caused people to eat excessively and gain excessive amounts of fat. Even though he felt that obesity was caused by one of several different possible disorders, he felt that the treatment could be the same for all of these issues. However, he still felt that there was an actual cure that could allow a person to eat whatever they wanted and never become obese, but had not found that cure before his death.
Fortunately, Dr. Simeons was able to develop a detailed plan and standard for injections of the HCG to force the body to process stored fat properly and reduce the production of new fat cells. Evidence suggests that this diet, along with the regular injections, not only increase weight-loss in each patient but forces their bodies to properly utilize the fat. In studies, it was shown that pounds lost during the diet with the injections was mostly fat weight. Each patient receiving the HCG injections lost considerably less muscle mass than those who received the placebo. Each pound they lost was more fat than muscle.
Dr. Simeon’s HCG Diet Protocol is an easy to follow a diet with very strict rules that must be followed to ensure successful results. The diet lasts between 23 and 40 days, depending on the amount of fat needing to be lost. Each day of the diet, a small does of HCG hormone is delivered. This is often given in injections to ensure it is fully absorbed into the body. However, oral supplements have been used to replace the injections of this hormone. These HCG injections or supplements should be given for no less than 23 days. The injections can be administered for up to 40 days for those needing to lose a lot of weight. However, the HCG injections or supplements should not be taken any longer than the 40-day limit.
During the period of the injections of the HCG hormone, a strict 500 calorie diet must be followed. Those on the diet cannot eat any sugars, oil, or butter, and very limited starches. The list of approved food is quite small and can be simply followed during this short period. It is important, however, to follow the food list with only approved modern substitutes when necessary.
For breakfast as much unsweetened coffee or tea is permissible. Artificial sweeteners are acceptable to use in these beverages. However, only one tablespoon of milk should be used per day.
100 grams precooked lean protein. All visible fat should be removed before cooking. Acceptable proteins include :beef, chicken breast, fresh white fish, lobster, crab, and shrimp.
One vegetable may be chosen from the specific list. This includes: cabbage, asparagus, cucumbers, red radishes, onions, fennel, tomatoes, celery, chicory, spinach, and green salad.
Fruits can include an apple or orange, a handful of strawberries, or one-half grapefruit.
One breadstick or melba toast
Dinner should consist of the same four choices included in the lunch menu.
The fruit and starch items can be used as snacks instead of parts of the meal, but not both. Lemon juice of one lemon can be used throughout the day for seasoning. Patients should also consume at least 2 liters of water per day and avoid cosmetics and unnecessary medications during the program.
